How I create Statement Earrings in 2025

These large size earrings for women are handmade with care, heart, and a splash of creativity. More so, each pair is a mix of fabric off-cuts from my bigger Ankara projects. I carefully layer cut out fabric shapes by hand onto repurposed greeting card stock or flyer cardstock. Yep, you heard that right I give old things new life. And this is just like you do every day. There after, I mindfully shape and glue them together with love.

And here is how I finish my fabulous looking big size geometric shape earrings. When dry, I then hung from strong 304 stainless steel silver wires and hoops (measuring 20–33 mm) that won’t irritate your ears. The full size? About 9 cm long and 6 cm wide—perfect for making a bold but beautiful statement.

Colourful African Fabric Earrings Made with Love

I support sustainable fashion here in Australia. It is good for our planet to reduce waste when creating clothing. For this reason, I safe and upcycle fabric off cuts. Also, I rescue used greeting cards, promotional materials and other card stock to make earrings. So, in my creative way, I promote our African culture and heritage by using our colourful African wax print fabric. These are vibrant cotton fabrics that shae beautifully into my bright and fun geometric shape earrings. Don’t they look pretty? I love the way they dangle next to long straight or short curley hair.

I handcraft bold earrings from small fabric pieces left over from big sewing projects. Some of my fabric off-cuts come from dresses made for me by my seamstress in Ghana. These fabric prints are special and hard to find now. I got the fabric as a gift nearly 20 years ago and saved it for a long time. Now, I use the left over pieces to craft pretty earrings.
